Seattle PI:
Susan Carr doesn’t seem like the shrieking type. The redheaded mezzo-soprano has a calming, mellifluous voice. She sings in a Latin jazz band. But on her new DVD, “The Art of Screaming,” she teaches others to caterwaul like the devil, growl like a primal animal, pierce eardrums with a witchy shriek. Carr has taught thousands of singers in 25 years as a vocal teacher. She has worked with jazz and blues singers, country artists and pop singers, but her bread and butter has been alternative rockers.
