COMING OF AGE IN MIDDLE-AGE: INTERVIEW WITH BOBCAT GOLDTHWAIT
Film Threat
Bobcat Goldthwait is most widely known for his irreverent stand-up character: the awkward fellow with the self-described “Grover voice,” which he reluctantly carried over into several film roles. The indie film fan may also know him from cult film favorite Shakes the Clown, which he wrote, directed and starred in. But these days, Bobcat has shed the Andy Kaufman-esque persona completely and resides behind the camera, directing his own scripts, such as 2006’s Sleeping Dogs Lie, which he followed up with the similarly themed World’s Greatest Dad. In this recent interview, director Bobcat Goldwaith answers why he chose to shoot his recent film, World’s Greatest Dad, in Seattle.

SEATTLE TIMES Q&A WITH ‘BOBCAT’ GOLDTHWAIT, DIRECTOR OF WORLD’S GREATEST DAD
Seattle Times
Bob “Bobcat” Goldthwait is most familiar as an off-the-rails stand-up comedian and comic actor whose cracked voice and anxiety shtick energized many a lowbrow movie and made him a loose cannon on talk shows. In 1991, Goldthwait wrote and directed cult favorite Shakes the Clown, and since then has nurtured a successful career as a director of television (“Chappelle’s Show”) and film (Stay). His new work, World’s Greatest Dad, shot in the Seattle area, stars Robin Williams. Check out the above link to read Goldthwait’s take on non-traditional comedy.
REVIEW: ‘WORLD’S GREATEST DAD’ A FEARLESS COMEDY
Seattle PI
This is tricky: How to talk about “World’s Greatest Dad,” the latest comedy from Bobcat Goldthwait, without giving away all its twists and twisted details? It’s extremely dark and daring and definitely not for everyone, but it shows that with his third film as writer and director, Goldthwait is honing a unique and fearless voice, and that’s exciting to see.
BOBCAT GOLDTHWAIT ON WORLD’S GREATEST DAD, TIME MACHINES, WOODY ALLEN, AND MORE
Seattle PI
If Bobcat Goldthwait had a time machine, he says he’d travel back to the ’80s and offer his 22-year-old self this warning: “Don’t do Police Academy.” Seattle PI reporter Christine Champ recently met up with him to to discuss his new amour and his latest release, World’s Greatest Dad, both a wickedly witty ode to outsiders, and a Heathers-esque satire about narcissism that stars Robin Williams. Read the article for truths most audiences never knew about Goldthwait, such as why Woody Allen is his moviemaker soul mate, his opinion of his acting, his plans for a Kinks musical, as well as a G-rated fable based on his boyhood and more. The film, shot in Seattle, opens in theatres today.
