The University of Washington’s Rainy Dawg Radio the local nonprofit college radio station run by students, was founded this very day in 2001. The Rainy Dawg is celebrating its birthday tonight at Meany Hall with an acoustic performance from John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats. The station’s general manager Omar Shaukat said Darnielle will be the most prominent musician to headline one of the station’s birthday shows in its ten years of broadcasting. Opening for Darnielle will be local musician Jesy Fortino, aka Tiny Vipers, whose 2009 Sub Pop-released full-length Life on Earth earned critical acclaim. Shaukat said that he and others at Rainy Dawg Radio loved that album and they wanted to include a local component to the show. The show starts at 8:00 PM and tickets are still available for UW students at By George for $12 and for the general public online at the link above.
