Katie Aselton’s The Freebie, shot by Seattleite Ben Kasulke and starring local Sean Nelson, will screen at the 2010 SXSW Film Festival in Austin next month. The film is among the 119 features set to screen during the nine day fest, which overlaps with the popular music and interactive events at SXSW. The Freebie, executive produced by Aselton and Mark Duplass, premired at Sundance last month.

Actress Katie Aselton is taking the Sundance stage next week with The Freebie, her first film as a director. Her husband, Mumblecore royalty Mark Duplass, encouraged Aselton to do what he and his brother did several years ago with The Puffy Chair. And like Puffy, Aselton’s film is debuting at this year’s Sundance in its new NEXT section.
