Sea-Port Beat, Hollow Earth Radio’s groundbreaking eight-part audio documentary on the independent music legacy of the Pacific Northwest, ends its month-long broadcast run today, with the final two installments premiering at 10:00 am and later re-airing at 6:00 pm. The series, which traces the little-known underground stories at the heart of our region’s thriving music community, concludes with “Thicker the Blood” and “The Legacy Continues,” two new episodes which posit on a number of resonant questions: What sustains the local independent music scene? What motivates participants to move from spectators to joining in the creation of music? How has the community changed over the years and where is it going next? For answers to these queries and much more, be sure to tune in to the series or to stream it via podcast here . Hollow Earth also opens its doors ever week to host in-person listening sessions for the evening rebroadcast of the series. HOLLOW EARTH RADIO CELEBRATES THE LAUNCH OF THE “SEA-PORT BEAT” SERIES

Local freeform outfit Hollow Earth Radio (HER) has set upon an important task: documenting the independent music legacy of the Pacific Northwest. Thus is the genesis of HER’s Sea-Port Beat series, a groundbreaking eight-part audio documentary that traces the little-known underground stories at the heart of our region’s music community—from the 1950s to the grunge wave to the post-Internet era. Featuring candid interviews local musicians as well as those who create the culture around the music –record label proprietors, hose venue operators, visual artists and more—Sea-Port makes its debut today and will stream every Wednesday in March at 10:00 am to noon with rebroadcasts at 6:00. For these evening rebroadcasts, Hollow Earth will also open its doors every week for in-person listening sessions. Funding for this project was made possible by a grant from Humanities of Washington. Today’s episodes include “This Time Let’s Do It Right,” which surveys the Northwest Independent Music Legacy of the 1980’s, and “Origins Of A Sound,” an exploration of how the unique Northwest sound has developed.
