Columbia City Theater
Help continue the celebration of the grand reopening of the historic Columbia City Theater, which hosted such acts as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Jimi Hendrix. From neighborhood movie theater, to jazz club, to home of the DIY punk movement, the theater has been a staple in the Seattle arts scene. The newly renovated theater reopened on June 25 and is marking the event with a full line-up of concerts, which you can peruse by following the link. CITY HALL PRESENTS FREE SUMMER LUNCHTIME CONCERTS STARTING TOMORROW

Seattle Presents with the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs is bringing a series of daytime performances to the City Hall this summer. Each concert starts at noon and is completely free. The first show is tomorrow, Thursday June 17 and features folk singers Kat Eggleston and Rose Laughlin. Attendees can enjoy a double bill of beguiling vocals grown from Celtic and American folk roots. Rose is “a true folk music chanteuse,” writes Sing Out magazine. Kat won Live Ireland’s Female Vocal Album of the Year, and the Chicago Tribune raves she has “…the soul of a poet but the voice of an angel, not to mention that the lady can play a mean guitar.” The rest of the series’ lineup is at the above link.
FREE CONCERT TONIGHT SPOTLIGHTS GIFTED YOUNG, LOCAL COMPOSERS AT BENAROYA

As the culmination to the 2010 Merriman Family Young Composers Workshop, 10 local teenage composers will have their music premiered by Seattle Symphony musicians on Monday, April 26, at 8:00 pm. The annual recital is free and will take place at Benaroya Hall. Seattle Symphony Music Director Gerard Schwarz will host the event and interview each young composer prior to the performance of their work. Each young composer will briefly discuss the inspiration behind their piece, providing insight into the thoughts and musical ideas of classical music’s next generation.
