Seattle’s Crocodile Café reopens its doors
KOMO News:
At a time when local night spots are falling victim to the struggling economy, one club is making a comeback. The Crocodile Café was a dingy nightclub that became a second home for local musicians during grunge rock’s heyday. Many of Seattle’s most famous bands, including Nirvana and Pearl Jam, played there during its 16-year life. Money troubles shut down the Croc in December 2007, but the live music venue reopened on Thursday night, thanks to nothing short of a miracle.
THE CROCODILE HAS A NEW LOGO, A NEW SHOW, AND A NEW(ER) NAME
Three Imaginary Girls:
The Crocodile is now just The Crocodile. The “Cafe” part of the name is gone. Which is just as well, since no one ever called the old incarnation by its full name. The club also unveiled its new logo, which is looking pretty good.
John Roderick Meets the New Croc
Seattle Weekly:
In this article from Seattle Weekly, John Roderick, frontman for The Long Winters, narrates his experience inside Belltown’s iconic, soon-to-be-reopened Crocodile Cafe. Roderick writes, “The folks at the New Croc are familiar faces for musicians young and old, so there are no concerns in that department…I had as many bad, or complicated, memories there as I did good ones, and the ones that really mattered couldn’t be retold. They were the small moments, the passing faces, and the long conversations leaning against the wall. I remember feeling insecure at the Croc when it first opened—that I was a small fish—but gradually growing comfortable over the years until I felt like I belonged. I grew up there, really.”
