KCTS 9
KCTS 9 and Community Cinema Seattle will present a screening of the acclaimed documentary Garbage Dreams next Saturday, January 23. The film reveals the world’s largest garbage village located on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. The Zaballeen (Arabic for “garbage people”) recycle 80 percent of the trash they collect – far more than other recycling initiatives. But now a multinational corporation threatens their livelihood. The film screened in Documentary Competition at SIFF 2009 and has won 17 awards at festivals internationally. The screening will take place at noon on January 23 at SIFF Cinema and will be followed by a discussion.
