College Battle of the Bands
On Thursday, April 21, the Vera Project will play host to the Seattle leg of the 3rd Annual College Battle of the Bands. A total of 11 cities are participating in this musical competition, which is presented by Chegg.com, GRAMMY U, AT&T and SESAC. Like an older sibling to EMP’s wildly successful Sound Off! competition, 10 bands from around the Northwest are vying for three coveted spots on Thursday night’s bill. Genres range from the Top 40-inspired party hip-hop of Seattle University band U Crew to the edgy and infectious rock of University of Washington band (and Sound on the Sound favorite) Land of Pines. The artist with the most plays on the College Battle of the Bands’ Seattle website gets a guaranteed spot at the Vera Project show; the other two slots will be filled by judge selections. Winners will be showered with music gear and prizes from contest sponsors, in addition to securing an opening spot on Live Nation’s upcoming Textbooks & Tickets Tour. Bands that submit songs with a social justice theme are also eligible for a $5,000 grant furnished by the Elfenworks Foundation. Notable alumni of the College Battle of the Bands contest include Los Angeles indie rockers Local Natives and North Carolina-bred hip-hop artist Mike Posner. Keep an eye on the Vera Project’s website for tickets to what promises to be an awesome showcase of young talent.
