The Recording Academy announced its nominations for this year’s Grammy’s. While acts like Eminem, Lady Gaga and Jay-Z lead with the most nominations, several Northwest bands are represented in the listings. In the best hard-rock category, Seattle’s Alice and Chains and Soundgarden as well as former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl were recognized. Pearl Jam’s Backspacer was nominated for best rock album and Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds’ Kundalini Bonfire earned a nod in the best rock instrumental performance category. Kenny G’s Heart and Soul and Portland’s Band of Horses’ Infinite Arms were also nominated. For a full listing of the nominations, follow the link.
COCHELLA 2009 LINE UP ANNOUNCED

The line up for the 2009 Cochella Valley Music and Arts Festival has finally been announced. Fleet Foxes and Band of Horses of Sub-Pop Records are some of the highest billed performers for Friday night’s show.
Death Cab for Cutie, Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell Cover Love Songs for Starbucks

On January 30, Starbucks Entertainment will release Sweetheart: Our Favorite Artists Sing Their Favorite Love Songs. Starbucks already pulled this trick in 2005, and apparently the world demanded a sequel. The tracklist includes Seattle musicians Death Cab for Cutie, Ben Bridwell, and Kate Tucker covering songs by The Cure, George Harrison, and Bruce Springsteen.
