If posed with the prompt “History Is ________,” how would you respond? Two Skyline High School students took up the challenge and wound up taking home the top prize in the Youth Competition of MOHAI and SIFF’s short film contest. Ashwathi Raj and Tony Elevathingal’s film, titled “History Is Our Story,” features quirky camera angles and candid responses from Skyline High School students and teachers (sometimes in languages other than English) about what history means to them. Answers varied from “history is our future” to “history is a lie” to “history is subjective.” In the end, the filmmakers emphasize that history is above all a chronicle of the human experience. You can view the award-winning film below. It will also screen as part of the FutureWave Shorts program at SIFF this year.
