Seattle Times:
Seattle filmmaker Lynn Shelton won the Acura Someone to Watch award at the 2009 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday night. The award, given to Shelton for her second film “My Effortless Brilliance,” includes an unrestricted grant of $25,000. The award was created, in Film Independent’s words, “to honor a talented filmmaker of singular vision who has not received appropriate recognition.” Shelton’s third film, “Humpday,” had its world premiere last month at the Sundance Film Festival and was acquired for distribution by Magnolia Pictures. It is scheduled for theatrical release in August. According to an interview in Variety, Shelton will collaborate with novelist Sherman Alexie for her next project.
