KPLU
KPLU’s Bellamy Pailthorp recently checked in with TheFilmSchool and the community of alumni it’s creating. Seattle is known as a city for film buffs and writers. But many movies that are set here are shot in other locations. Several years ago, the state film office started offering incentives to attract more movie crews. At the same time, a group of Hollywood veterans thought they could encourage more home-grown productions by getting locals to write better scripts. They do it by teaching filmmaking without any cameras. At a time when the discussion in Seattle was all about how to lure in more movie crews from out of town, producer/director John Jacobsen says he and Hollywood actor Tom Skerritt would get together and vent. “And one of us finally said, let’s stop doing that, why don’t we learn how to make better movies here. And we’ll create our own indie scene, sort of like the grunge scene if you will.” To read more about the history of TheFilmSchool and how it has evolved, follow the above link.
