Local filmmaker Francine Strickwerda and her business partner Laurel Spellman Smith are previewing their latest effort, Oil and Water, this Thursday, October 14 at the Duwamish Longhouse and Cultural Center. According to the film’s official website, Oil and Water tells the story of a Seattle teenager’s fight for environmental justice after the tribal lands and health of his people, the Cofan of the Ecuadorian Amazon, were ravaged by big oil in the late 1990s. Funded by a CityArtist Project grant from the Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, the film has been four-years in the making and is still a work in progress—the screening will show about 25 minutes of the piece. The film starts at 7 pm, but the doors open at 5:30 so guests are free to explore the Duwamish Cultural Center beforehand. For more information about the event follow the link.
