In preparation for Record Store Day, this Saturday April 17, the Seattle Times talks with local record store owners about the state of the independent brick-and-mortar record store. Since 2004, faced with the popularity of digitally downloaded music, intense price pressure from big-box discounters and economic uncertainty the number of indie-music stores nationwide has declined 40 percent to about 1,930. There has been an uptick in vinyl sales and Matt Vaughan, owner of Easy Street Records, is proud of what a store can offer that digital downloads can’t, “Come to a place like this, and you’re hearing music, people are talking about music, and it just feels more real.” To read the full article follow the above link.
