Sometimes it is difficult knowing where to look for smaller budget, independent films. If they weren’t widely released in theaters or you missed them at SIFF or Netflix isn’t showing it, frustration can ensue. But according to the New York Times, watching indie films from the comfort of your own home might be easier than previously thought. Prominent international filmmakers such as Hong Kong’s Johnnie To, Spain’s Daniel Monzón and the brains behind Don’t Look Back, Colin Fitz Lives! and Centurion are making use of On-Demand’s distribution method. Of course blockbuster hits still dominate the scene, but with talented and influential filmmakers making efforts to raise the standards of the program to include lesser-known films, On-Demand could quickly become the place to look for independent films.
