Capitol Hill Seattle Blog
Good news for those excited about this year’s Capitol Hill Block Party (CHBP): the Seattle Special Events Committee green-lit a third day for the thriving music festival. Last year, for the first time in the CHBP’s 15 year history, a day was added to the typically two-day schedule. A steadily growing audience over the years makes this added day almost a must at this point for the CHBP, which will take place July 22-24. This change is conditional upon increasing the security and safety of the event, in addition to a 9 pm end time for the last day of the festival. Come July the CHBP will convert E. Pike Street between 12th Ave and Broadway into a musical hub, with an additional stage on 11th Ave between E. Pike and E. Union Street. After a community meeting seeking feedback about last year’s festival, 51 of the 56 businesses in the area affected by the event have expressed support for expanding the CHBP to three days. Now that organizers have solid dates for the festival in hand, stay tuned to see what bands will be booked for what is certain to be another hotly anticipated CHBP.
